Bidders offer $1.4 million for 26 homes owned by Richmond housing authority

Now-vacant homes once intended as alternatives to Richmond’s large-scale public housing complexes were snatched up by private bidders on Thursday beneath the fluorescent lights of the Greater Richmond Convention Center.

One by one, pictures of the 26 houses scattered across the city flashed on a screen as auctioneers evangelized to a business-savvy crowd the potential revenue to be gained from flipping or renting.
